Climbing the Mountain: Guardrails, Guides, and the Mystery of Non-Duality

A walking meditation on staying grounded, avoiding the woo-woo detours, and finding the practices that keep us on the contemplative path.

This unedited Contemplative Path walk explores non-duality—not as a lofty concept to master, but as a mystery we may glimpse only for a moment at the mountaintop. Using the metaphor of ascent, we reflect on the guardrails, guides, and spiritual disciplines that keep us from getting lost in abstraction or drifting into woo-woo land. Rather than trying to describe enlightenment, this walk invites you to consider where you are on the path, who is helping you climb, and how your daily practices shape the journey.

As you walk, you’ll hear honest reflections on ego, teaching, mentorship, Ram Dass, Christian mysticism, and the ways we sometimes misuse esoteric language. Most of all, this is a companionable conversation—just as if we were walking together—offered to help you stay oriented, compassionate, and grounded as you continue your own ascent.
